STAY THE COURSE: Part 5 - By Jim Janz

STAYING THE COURSE

What course? Know what course you’re on, the course that will take you to the accomplishment of your dreams and goals.

I want to speak to those of you who have an intense dream; those of you who think you know what your dream is, and those of you who don’t have a clue what your dream is.

First to the clueless:

Listen to your heart. What gets your attention? When do you really enjoy yourself? Is it a particular life style? Is it the financial freedom that can allow you to do what you really want to do? Is it a cause much bigger than yourself and your lifestyle? Mother Teresa set such an unparalleled example of what that was all about.

Success in business, creating wealth, or any other fulfillment of a dream should not be an end in itself. It may be the toughest thing you ever did, but for most of you it will only be a vehicle to take you to be fulfilled in those areas of life that really matter.

Many people are living lives of quiet desperation; full of hurts and financial stress.

Only when you know why you are doing it and only when your desire to achieve exceeds your trepidations, will you be ready to ignore the no’s and the fears that we all suffer from.

People with the passion to achieve their dreams have done amazing things. They have paid the price. I spent a couple of days with Dr. Schuller last week and from the time his uncle said to him, “Robert, you are going to be a great preacher some day…” Was it all a bed of roses? Oh no!

Many of us are so wimpy. Our society that has taught us never to deny ourselves or to suffer pain of any kind (drugs). This has left us with a disproportionate number of people who are getting left behind, never to fulfill their God given potential.

Bruce Wilkinson says:

“Let me encourage you. Never think that since you are struggling, you are a second class Dreamer; just remember that there is no way for any of us to reach our dreams without leaving our recliners… over and over again. We love the recliner… it is our escape from what we know we have to do to really become a consistent home run hitters. It’s the after five hours that make ordinary people into somebodys.

A man named Kenton from Kenya, had this to say, ‘I have broken through my Comfort Zone in key areas of my life, but I keep finding new areas that I have to deal with if I want to live my Dream.’ He asks, ‘Does the discomfort ever go away?’”

STAY THE COURSE: Part 4 - By Jim Janz

Bruce takes us through the steps necessary to work this process of finding and achieving that unique purpose for which we are placed here for a while – a process that all the great dreamers in history have gone through.
Here are the steps.

1. Become aware of your personal Dream or calling. Don’t fret or panic, just become aware.

2. Face the FEAR and leave the place of comfort.

3. Be prepared to encounter massive opposition from those around you.

4. Get ready to work through a period of difficulty that will test your belief in your dream.

5. Learn to surrender to the call and by faith, stay the course.

6. Conquer the huge obstacles that stand between you and the fulfillment of your dream.

7. And finally, you will reach your full stride and your potential as you begin to achieve all that you were meant to be and do.

There are many hurdles to overcome. Winners use those hurdles to build strength by making them just another breakthrough experience that propels them to the next big event on the journey.

Bruce goes on to say, “That only you that can discover the dream that will give you true fulfillment and cause you to be all that you were created to be.”

As we pursue that dream the empty places in our lives begin to fill in and only as we become knowledgeable about who we are, and why we are doing what we are doing, can we can effectively reach out to help others fulfill their purpose in life.

STAY THE COURSE: Part 2 - By Jim Janz

None of us will stay the course if that is our only goal. It will take a lot more than that to keep us doing what we need to do to take us to the finish line.

IT’S A TOUGH WORLD OUT THERE with tons of distractions. It’s a world of NOISE and competition, of cynicism, hate and mistrust. It’s a world of tensions, dysfunction and stress and we have trouble at times staying focused on what it is all about in the midst of all of this turmoil, but focus we must if we are to succeed.

We, who belong to organizations and businesses that encourage reading inspirational books, listening to CDs, and attending seminars are fortunate to live in a world of optimism friendship, love, appreciation, and trust. These are novel concepts in a world that hardly believes that is possible anymore... even in church.

We, who aspire to success and know that we can do something about it, have so many things going for us. If you are reading this now, you are probably one of those privileged few who have found your purpose or your dream.

If not, keep looking for it. If it is a business you want, look for a dynamic “B” quadrant business that has unique outstanding products or services and that is supported by an effective and electrifying, personal and business development system: one that trains, teaches and motivates by pulling out the very best out of all who commit to doing what it espouses.

STAY THE COURSE: Part 1 - By Jim Janz

It’s a Saturday morning at the Semiahmoo Resort in Blaine Washington. We have just completed a leadership Seminar and a few ‘stay behinds’ are on board our yacht as we head over to the beautiful island of Sucia in the San Juan Islands for the day. It’s foggy and the horizon is not visible, but being the optimistic captain, I assure our guests, “It will burn off shortly.”

Visibility is not zero, but it’s not good. Gloria Askew, author of a best selling book called Secrets of Supplements: The Good, The Bad, The Totally Terrific
comes up to the bridge and says in her typical inquisitive way, “How do you know where you are going, Jim?” All we can see is water and fog. I showed her the chart and how the compass heading led to a marker that would appear on our port side some 35 minutes straight ahead. I explained that once we reached that marker we would make a 27 degree course correction to port to avoid a rocky reef only to then to make a hard right into the beautiful bays in the island of Sucia. The radar is also helpful to keep from colliding with other vessels that may be out in the straights on this pleasant but rather foggy morning.

Gloria, not being shy about asking questions, especially if her life may depend on it, says,
“How do you know all this?” I told her I took a course and I mostly learned it from experienced boating mentors. She asked, “How do you know you’ll get to that spot?” I said, “I trust those who taught me. I trust the charts. I trust my Compass and my GPS. All of this is necessary to keep me on course. I also trust my ‘see-in-the-dark instrument’, my radar.”

If I had looked at the shadows out there or decided to go on my own instincts we could have ended up on the rocks that day, but instead, by staying the course, 35 minutes later the marker showed up 20 feet off to our port side, the fog had lifted, and the amazing Island of Sucia loomed up ahead.

We have mentors who have gone before us. I have actually had inexperienced people grab the rudder and say, “lets go here!” One must know what they are doing when they venture out into new territory. We were in Winter Cove in the Gulf islands one afternoon when some young guys came up to us in their 18 foot boat and asked, “Where is Cabbage island?.” I asked them for charts to show them. They said, “Charts? What are charts?” They actually had a road map! We all need to learn the system whether it is boating, flying, or business. If a functioning entity does not have a system it is doomed to fail. We have all the tools available to us to guide us to our place of destiny. All we have to do is take the time to learn how to use them.

Let me be an encouragement to you today while helping you with some guidelines to STAY THE COURSE.... Part 2 on Monday.

Marketing:

"Subtle is a cousin of beautiful.

"Subtle design and messaging challenge the user to make her own connections instead of spelling out every detail. Connections we make are more powerful than connections made for us. If Amazon and Zappos had been called "reallybigbookstore.com" and "tonsofshoes.com" it might have made some early investors happy, but they would have built little of value." Read More: CLICK HERE.

Motivation:

From Business Guru, Jim Janz:

My weekend reading led me to a book called How The Mighty Fall: And Why Some Companies Never Give In
How exciting eh? Motivation comes in many forms!

In Business:
“Whether you prevail or fail, endure or die, depends more on what you do to yourself than on what the world does to you.”
Jim Collins – author of Good to Great

He goes on to say in his new book, “Decline, it turns out, is largely self - inflicted, and the path to recovery lies largely within our own hands. We are not imprisoned by our circumstances, our history, or even our staggering defeats along the way. As long as we never get entirely knocked out of the game, hope always remains.

The mighty, or even the moderately successful can fall, but they often rise again!” It is, once again… a choice.

Despite all the uncertainty around there is still an air of optimism and recovery just beneath the surface. Those who grab it will have great success in the days to come!

Social Media Training:

"The Customer Owns Your Brand" by Shane Gibson

"I saw this great example of how a customer owns your brand in social media. While some Realtors may blog and tweet the links, or others build Facebook page shrines in their likeness, Jack Bernard has been branded by his customers online. You obviously want both, but this creative list as to why he’s the best Realtor in the world is a great example of how a raving fan can use their social influence to promote your business..."
